The $500 Question
About a 5 years ago, I went to see a Biblical Counselor.
(Did you know there’s a difference between a Christian Counselor and a Biblical Counselor? 🤔 Yeah, I didn’t either. 🤷♀️)
I saw her maybe 5-7 times, and in those sessions, she heard me saying things like:
“Well, I think this...”
“I think that....”
“and, I was talking to my friend about this....”
In response to my struggles, she asked me a $500 question that was PIVOTAL.
She said, “How can you invite God into that conversation in your head?” 🤯
She DIDN’T say, “Have you prayed about it?” 👀
Although I would say I knew God, there’s a difference between knowing OF God and KNOWING God intimately. ☝️
In the last 5 years, I have been learning how to release my perceived control to Him — to surrender my will in favor of His, and as the old, beloved hymn says, “To trust and obey.”
The way I was attempting to control my life ended up in anxiety + depression because I was taking on things that weren’t mine to take on. 🤦🏼♀️
Anxiety + depression are now like a check engine light 💡🚗 in my heart, notifying me it’s time to pause and meet with God.
By his grace, I am much quicker now to course-correct.
Too many “Christians” are walking around like I was — anxious, overly stressed, and depressed.
I have lots of thoughts on the “why,” but ultimately, what matters most is that we don’t stay there.
Jesus said that He Himself IS THE ABUNDANT LIFE. 🌿
Living Christian doesn’t mean we are totally free of anxiety, stress, and depression.
Living Christian means we know where to go when those human emotions threaten to overtake us.
Living Christian doesn’t mean our lives will be free of suffering — quite the opposite.
No human is exempt from suffering.
Not even Jesus was.
Living Christian means we enter back into a right relationship with our Creator and daily move toward full restoration. ✨
Living Christian means we surrender to Him making us new. 🌱
Living Christian is RICH with beauty and goodness, even among the thorns. 🌹
Living Christian starts with a surrendered heart, inviting God into the conversation in our head.
